I’ve been told I have a nice…oh wait that may not be appropriate :)

It’s one of the hardest things to deal with in this biz: how to tell people who have been assured all their lives that they have a nice voice that they have to work just as hard as anyone else. I like this rejoinder— it should put things in perspective!

Excellent cartoon this week! (As always.) It really is amazing how many people think voice-over acting is an “easy” option simply because someone has told them they have “a nice voice”. We all know there really is more to it than that. The voice is an instrument – it takes more than having “a nice instrument” to know how to play it properly! There’s a matter of how to read and interpret a script; how to “mould” the voice instrument to produce the interpretation correctly; exercising the instrument, etc etc etc.

Looks easy? It is supposed to look easy! Just take the greatest musicians, they make it look simple. However, it takes practice and dedication, dedication and practice, to perfect the art.

Harrumph! I coached someone with a good voice and ended up losing most of my accounts to them. Never again.
